Lexington Public School
In 2024-25, Lexington had 355 students for 113 permanent places, so most classes were in a 12-room portapak. The board first raised a rebuild in 2018, and it hasn't been built. 122 homes were permitted in its area between January 2019 and August 2026, and 57 more are proposed.
Nothing is scheduled for Lexington that we know of. to hear when it comes up.
How full is it?
Ward median 97%
One of 14 ward schools over 100% in 2024-25. Further over its permanent places than any other ward school.
The 113 permanent places are about five classrooms: two in the older building and three kindergarten rooms added in 2013. Most students learn in a 12-room portapak, and the board's 2020 plan says “The gymnasium structure is not permanent.”[2][5][6]
Enrolment is the Ministry’s October 31 headcount; permanent places are the board’s on-the-ground capacity. Portables aren’t counted as permanent places.
Students and educators
Ward median 23 (elementary schools)
All 15 classes, including split grades, counted by the Ministry in September 2025. Kindergarten classes: 24.0 on average. Grade 1 to 3 classes with no older students: 18.1 on average.
We don't calculate students per teacher here: the school's website names no more teachers than the school has classes, so the list is incomplete.[4]
A staff page is a directory of names, not full-time equivalents: part-time teachers count as one each, and staff based at other schools aren’t listed. Not every school lists its support staff. The board doesn’t publish staffing by school.
Last rebuild or addition
Ward median: built 1974
Last addition on record: three kindergarten rooms, 2013.
- 1955Original building
- 1958Addition
- 1963Addition
- 1993Reopened after a major renovation; two portapak wings and a demountable gym added
- 2013Three kindergarten rooms
- 1993Done
Closed in 1984 and reopened in 1993 after a major renovation. Two 6-classroom portapak wings and a “demountable gymnasium structure” were added then; the board's 2020 plan says “The gymnasium structure is not permanent.”[7][5][8][2] - 2010Raised, not built
A 13-classroom addition to replace the portapak was approved in principle in June 2010, subject to Ministry funding. It was submitted to the Ministry in May 2012 and not funded in January 2013; by 2018 the board said it was “no longer within the priority list”.[9][6][10] - 2013Done
A three-classroom addition for full-day kindergarten was built in 2013, placed so the portapak could still be replaced later.[6][17] - 2018Raised, not built
The board's draft 2017-2027 plan (January 2018) recommended considering a rebuild. Every year from 2021-22 to 2024-25, staff screened the rebuild as “does not meet criteria; ineligible project”. It was not sent to the Ministry in any round from 2019 to 2024-25. The board still listed it as a potential partnership project in September 2026.[11][12][13][14][15][16]
New homes in its attendance area
Ward median 232 (elementary school areas in Waterloo)
Another 57 homes are proposed in 1 active application[18].
There’s no Development Area here, so new homes in this boundary are assigned to this school[20].
About 13% of this area's addresses are in Kitchener, where we haven't counted permits yet.[19]
By the board’s own pupil rates, the homes permitted could be home to about 28 elementary-age children (JK to Grade 8)[21].derived
City of Waterloo permits only. Gross counts: demolitions aren’t subtracted.
Building condition
Ward median 27%
Under the board's 65% “poor” line.[22] The index is five years of needed repairs divided by what it would cost to replace the building. Higher is worse. The red mark is the board’s 65% “poor” line.
